First up, some posts/webinars/new resources that I wanted to share with everyone and then I’ll get to the winners of the book contest!
Posts/Articles
- “Tampa Family Finds ‘Pirate Treasure’ In Grandfather’s Attic…” – WITH A HUMAN HAND! How weird (and so cool) would this be to find?
- “Roadwork May Unearth Forgotten Bodies on Chicago’s Northwest Side” – Who knew construction could be so macabre?
- “An Open Letter to Genealogy Societies” – I agree with this on so many points! I am hoping to start changing my own local society to meet some of these new needs. Do you notice this in your own society? I recommend doing your part to help change it so the next generation can feel welcome in the group š
- “Wall Street’s Slave Market” – a JSTOR article about what used to be on the corner of Wall and Pearl Streets. I had no idea!
- “Don’t Take Photo Labels at Face Value” by Janine Adams at Organize Your Family History – great point about the labels that are found on old family photos!
- “Area Woman Receives 125-year-old Letter from Grandfather” – I loved this story! How amazing is it that this letter survived and made it’s way back to the now 97-year old grand-daughter!
- Did you know thatĀ one day, you may be able to use virtual reality to bring someone back from the dead?! I’m not sure how I feel about this… see EOGN’s article to get an idea of what this is all about!

- Dear Mrytle “DNA: Ancestry’s ‘New Ancestor Discoveries‘” – confused about this new part of AncestryDNA? Dear Mrytle and Angie Bush discuss what this all about (about 11 min. long)
- “Uncover Your Scandinavian Roots” by MyHeritage – (1:23:28 video) – This one is for MyHeritage users that have Scandinavian roots.
