Friday’s Faces from the Past

This last weekend I was able to scan a few pictures from my mom’s side of the family. She told me she knew everyone in those pictures. Then I showed her this one and she was stumped. She thinks they are her aunts (her dad’s sisters) but isn’t positive. I’ve got to send it along and see but thought I’d share it on here too πŸ™‚

I’m not even sure of the year on this one! Any guesses?

UPDATE:

I got a hold of my great-aunt who helped me identify the people! Β Top row: a friend of my Aunt Betty’s; my Aunt Betty; my grandpa (he’s so cute!). Bottom row: my Aunt Sally, a neighbor, then my Aunt Tootie. She believes this was taken at Grandma LaValley’s home. So the year here, going by my grandpa’s age, would be about the early 1940’s (awesome guess Deborah!)

I LOVE how much my great Aunt Betty looks like my mom’s sister. I love seeing older pictures and being able to see familiar features in my family now. πŸ™‚

  1. Wow – hopefully someone can identify all the people in the photo for you. It is always wonderful to be able to put names to faces πŸ™‚

I hope so too! Especially because some people look so familiar to me but I can’t place them.

      • It will be interesting to see whether they look familiar because you actually know them or whether its because they are related to someone and there is a resemblance that is triggering the familiarity πŸ™‚

True! One of the girls looks a lot like my aunt, my mom’s sister, and that’s who I thought it was at first.

  2. 1940s is my first guess, looking at the hair styles of the girls in the back row.

That sounds about right if this is a picture of my grandpa and his siblings!

      • Whew! I was worried there for a moment. πŸ™‚ Sometimes it is hard to judge kids’ clothing because they don’t change much from year to year. Sometimes you have to look by decade.

I can understand that. I’m not good at guessing dates for pictures yet but I had at first thought this was a picture from the late 50’s early 60’s!

  3. Poor little guy…lost in a sea of girls. Love his rumpled falling out shirt ends and his mischievous grin. As far as age, would guess the tallest is mid-teens? Younger ones are hard to tell since they aren’t standing. On the positive side, they’re all smiling so must have been a happy family.

They are a very happy family – something I’ve always loved about my mom’s side of the family. I don’t remember any bad times, just lots of laughter and fun πŸ™‚
